History of CCD
Chapel Dallas is a nondenominational fellowship affiliated with Calvary Chapel Association and the ministry of Pastor Chuck Smith of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, California. CCD started in 1981. It began as a home Bible Study with a group of people who listened to Pastor Chuck’s tapes. Bill Philipp of San Bernardino, California answered God’s call to come to Dallas when the group reached out to CC Costa Mesa for a pastor.
Pastor Bill departed in 1986 and was succeeded by Pastor Rick Coburn. Pastor Rick was saved through the ministry of CC Costa Mesa and attended there 11 years prior to his arrival in Dallas. He served the Lord faithfully for 33 years at CC Dallas and retired in October of 2019.
His son, Pastor Eric Coburn, is the senior pastor at CC Dallas. Pastor Eric served at CCD until 2013 when he answered the Lord’s call on his life to plant Calvary Chapel Frisco, Texas . Calvary Frisco grew from a small home Bible Study to a church fellowship that met every Sunday at a historical chapel in Frisco. Upon Pastor Rick’s decision to retire, Pastor Eric was called to lead our Fellowship here at CC Dallas.
CCD is focused on worshiping the Lord, expositional teaching through the Bible, and knowing and making known the heart and will of God.
